Frolic, 1988 Steamboat
Length: 7.6m, Beam: 1.8m, Draft: 0.6m
Propulsion: Steam
Construction: Timber
Owner: David Livingston
Frolic is a beautiful 25’ fantail launch and has been faithfully replicated from 1890 plans, the Owner inspired by a visit to the Polly Woodside. She was built by the apprentices of the Boat Building Section at Ithaca College of TAFE. After much searching the single cylinder Walter Newbold engine was sourced in Ipswich, and has been dated as a 1896 model. The boiler is a replica of a 1896 Cochrane.
Launched at Brisbane’s Expo, she continues to glide through the water with little effort, the only sound being the steady thump of the steam engine, and the shrill whistle so evocative of these boats.
